They turned their canoes back and were shocked to find an old Saint Bernard trapped in thick mud, using all of his energy to call for help. Upon closer examination, they discovered that the poor dog was emaciated, exhausted, and had a tick attached to his eye. Everyone quickly jumped into action, using their oars as shovels to dig through the deep and viscous mud. Despite sinking up to their knees, the group persevered in their rescue mission.
