A sad shelter dog craves love and affection, seeking comfort in a warm embrace.
A dejected dog sat motionless in the shelter, too weak to lift her head. But despite her condition, she was desperate for affection and comfort, as John Hwang, an animal enthusiast and photographer, discovered.
When he encountered the 10-year-old dog at the Baldwin Park animal shelter in Los Angeles, he was struck by her sadness and lack of movement. But as he approached her, she surprised him by getting up and coming over to him.
John, who often visits shelters to spend time with animals in need of love, was touched by the dog’s pure heart and adorable movements. Although she was initially afraid, she quickly showed him all the love she had to offer. John spent time caressing and relaxing with her, feeling like they could have sat there all day.
As John shared his photos of the dog on social media, thousands of people fell in love with her and tried to help her. Leashes of Love Rescue, a group that rescues dogs from high-death shelters, was among those who were devastated by the dog’s fate.
But they were thrilled to learn that the dog, now called Annabelle, had found a permanent home with a loving owner who had already picked her up from the vet.
Annabelle’s story is a reminder not to judge a book by its cover or a dog by its appearance. Despite her initial dejected state, she showed John and others all the love she had to offer and touched many hearts along the way.
