Abandoned Goldendoodle Survives in Woods Eating Rocks, Tinfoil, and Acorns until Rescue
In the middle of winter, a Goldendoodle was discovered in the woods, so hungry that she had resorted to eating rocks, tinfoil, and acorns to survive. Luckily, thanks to the efforts of a team of rescuers, her life has been transformed.
When Molly was found, her fur was matted, and she was so emaciated that her skeleton protruded. The two-year-old dog was terrified of people after living in the woods for months, eating trash and struggling to stay alive.
The Wilson County Humane Society rescued Molly and brought her to the vet for urgent care. Miraculously, despite having consumed countless foreign objects, she did not need surgery. They shaved her and began treating her starvation, as she weighed only half of what she should have.
The next step was to find her a foster family where she could rest and recover, and one was found for her in New Jersey through the help of the Burlington County Animal Alliance. With the assistance of Flying Fur Animal Rescue, Molly arrived at her foster family.
It took a few weeks for Molly to become comfortable around her foster family’s other dogs, but she did not have to wait long to find a forever family. Molly quickly warmed up to her new family’s kids and other dogs.
“My friend, Daina Collins, who is a foster for the rescue, sent me Molly’s picture, and we knew we had to apply,” Cheryl Sgroi, Molly’s new mom, told The Dodo. “We did a trial day with her, and that was it. Everyone fell in love with her.”
And Molly has fallen in love with them too. Molly is loving life with her new family, who shared heartwarming pictures of her playing in the snow. Now her days are spent playing with her furry siblings, family, and toys. It’s a far cry from where she was a few months ago, but it’s all thanks to a group of caring people coming together to save her.
